I start recording at a lower volume from the mixer, but when increasing the volume in editing it would just increase the white noise. The MDX4600 has been a god send to resolve these issues. When the peak limiter is properly configured loud voices sound louder but never hit that wall that sends them to distortion and I get no background noise when the threshold is set.The only issue I had was being a complete audio newbie I had no idea what any of the knobs meant and the instructions didn't help too much. I was aprehensive about buying one in this price range but I was on a budget so I figured I would give it a try. When I first set it up I noticed a bit of low frequency rolling off at the release of compression, but a few adjustments later it was gone. I am running all analogue and this unit has removed all of the idle system noise, (hiss). The gate release is smooth and undetectable. I now have about a third more output from our system with out peaking, and the sound is quite satisfying. Using the limiter means as long as I keep the unit locked up, no one can overdrive the output or blow anything up. We are satisfied with our purchase but I did my research first and new what to expect. I am anticipating purchasing another unit in the near future for a local performing arts theater. For the price and the functionality, you won't go wrong. |
