This is a great (if not original) idea, and it is generally well executed. But when it arrived I fooled around with it for 5-10 minutes and could not get the top to budge. (I wasn't even sure what to push/pul/slide -- it was just a cedar cube (the shoe rest was stored inside). I'm a 6' 4" 270 lbs former football player and infantry officer, and the problem was not that I wasn't strong enough to force it open -- the issue was trying to get it open without breaking it. A friend came over and he was able to get it open enough to attach the shoe rest, but it STILL takes tremendous pressure to get the top to slide in the groves in the sides. I will eventually find the time to take it out to my shop, force it open, and sand down the edges of the top (and perhaps rub a little candle wax in the groves) so it will work fine. It's nice looking and seems generally well made, but for some reason the tolerances between the groves in the side...
